In step 3, risk and system assessment, you
analysed the conditions that determine the risk of mass developments of
cyanobateria and/or their break-through into drinking-water systems, including
the efficacy of existing control measures. This assessment, its reasons and its
uncertainties should be documented.
Columns 1-6 of the table below (marked red) are
suggested as format for a summary documentation of your assessment (use the worksheet provided for your own documentation). More
extensive documentation may be adequate and should be developed as needed. In
particular, it is useful to describe in more detail the rationale for your
assessment.
Column 7 will be
used later (it is proposed as format for a summary of your next step – defining
control measures).
Before finishing your risk assessment, it is
worthwhile to estimate how this risk relates to the health risks caused by other hazards
which occur in your water supply or recreational setting. This is important for
setting priorities when deciding on measures to improve the protection of
public health.
